Fish Sleep???

Hi,

I was just wondering do fish sleep?? Some of my fishes sometimes stays in one spot or extended periods of time and I was just wondering if anything was wrong or were they perhas sleeping or resting.

I think they sort of sleep ie rest as most of mine do the same like my florida garfish will sink to the bottom and lie on the sand as will my snakehead. When I get up in the morning and turn the lights on they start swimming about again.

I don't know if fish sleep the same way we sleep, but I'm sure they have regular "rest periods"...

In fact, this morning I woke up, turned on my tank lights and thought one of my emerald catfish was dead. He wasnt moving at all, even his gills were still.

Then another emerald cat nudged him and he started, just like a person would if he was rudely woken up.

Yes and also I've noticed that my fish's colours fade when I turn their lights off and they settle down. They all turn really dull colours but every morning when the light switches on again they turn back to normal!
