Okay a week ago, some of you may know that a few of my fish suffered from Skin/ gill flukes. They had just recovered when, on wednesday, one of my friends brought me home some new fish, 2 dwarf gouramis, and 4 more rainbows, to replace the ones i lost (d'oh!). I did not have a hospital tank ready, because i didnt expect to get fish for a while, so i had to make the terrible decision of introducing the fish directly into the tank.

Problem #1: now i have three male rainbows and two females, i know thats not a good ratio and the females are likely to become traumatized, stressed, and later probably sick. I would buy more females, but theres no room in my tank, and i dont trust any of my fishkeeping friends with any kind of fish.

Problem #2: one of the gouramis has just died from cotton- mouth/ mouth fungus, and the other gourami has spent a long time flicking against the glass. Im afraid its going to kill itself...... The angelfish looks like it may be coming down with mouth fungus. ( I know its not actually fungus)

please reply! I know i need to act fast with the mouth fungus. Everything has gone horribly wrong......

P.S. It's not a good idea to buy your friends fish unless you know they want more fish, what they want, and that they are expecting them.

I would suggest you try treating the tank with Maroxy by Mardel which is an excellent fungus cure.

Maracyn one and two, good luck.

thanks :] in the last hour or two one of my barbs has developed the fungus... thats how fast it spreads.. just in a few hours. I made a 30% water change, and im off to the fish store soon. I can get a ride in two hours. (eek, thats a long time!) Should I take out the carbon?

I think maracyn two should work better because it is a gram- negative infection.

okay i just saw the cherry barb behind a big rock, so he's still alive, but his symptoms are getting worse, he is starting to breath rather rapidly. and hes gasping a lot. I think the other cherry barbs are starting to develop the fungus. The rainbows still look okay.

I just bought maracyn two and put it in. Everyones still alive. The cherry barbs only have a little bit of white one their faces, and its not built up much yet. Do my barbs have any chance of surviving?

You have a bad case of columnaris in your tank it can spread like wild fire and kill fish in hours.
Turn temp down by two degrees, increase aeration, keep doing water changes add the correct amount of med back to the water removed, plus get maracyn one as you need to be using maracyn one and two.
Fingers crossed and good luck.

okay, thanks again wilder, ill do that. I have some maracyn one, should i just combine them?

A cherry barb died this morning and one of the others in in hiding. The other fish are still the same, just barely gasping.

Yes add maracyn one and two. Good luck.
