Went to the LFS today, "pier aquatics" in Wigan, I went to pick some water conditioner up, I used to think that it was a great fish shop until I asked the man who works there did they do anything to help with a fish cycle, and he replyed "Dont bother just do it with the fish in". Seems cruel to me.

thats what most LFS's will say to you, and fish in cycling is not cruel if you keep ammonia and nitrite at 0, ammonia is always present in a tank in undetectable amounts.

thats pretty bad for a fish shop to say, but i suppose if theyre not educated, then they will only tell you what theyve been told

and plus fish in cycle is such a nightmare to do!!

i know because i ended up doing a fish in cycle due to filter problems and its a long laborious job

thats nothing i was in a lfs the other day to buy some more corys to help with my sand and there were a mum and her kids in there wgho had a newly set up tank . ie not cycled or owt. the person serving said go for some livebearers as they will handle the ammonia better said nothing cycling ( but thats to be expected really) or waterchanges to keep levels down. then they saw the elephant nose fish and wanted it he happily sold them 6 danios 6 platys and the elephant nose. this is why i never ever trust lfs advice. anything i need to know i ask on here

It's rarely a lack of education. If you advise people to do a fish-in cycle, you can:

1) Sell them more fish to replace any they lose
2) Avoid putting people off by telling them they'll need to wait 6+ weeks before adding any fish to the tank they're looking at buying
3) Sell more of products like Cycle

Win-win-win for the fish shop. Unfortunate but true.

I used to go to pier aquatics but i know buy my fish from cmc aquatics
