Does anyone know if after a week a fish shop will take back a fish?

I think I am going to have to take back my gourami I am really upset about it because I do really like her but it appears she is a bully and therefore I feel is not suitable for a community tank in my mind :-( I wish there was a member in Aberdeen that could take her but I don't even know anyone who has fish here either.

As far as im aware they will normaly take them back but not neceserily refund.

some stores will give you store credit, they might just let you swap the gourami for another fish, maybe just another gourami if you explain why you want to return her

My only worry is that she gets sold to another person trying to do the same as me. I am frantically trying to convince OH a little tank wouldn't hurt anyone...

tbh, if you don't return the fish, the shop will just get more of them in so other people are going to end up in the same position as you anyway.

You can ask at the shop, the worst that can happen is they say no. I dont see why they wouldnt take it back though, even if they won't give you anything for it.

maybe getting it a partner will calm her down, my LFS sells them as pairs (sadly one of mine died a few months after buying it), so if you do get a little tank i would recommend doing that. but make sure its a male!

Would she not bully him as well?

she might, but then she might not, all fish are different so you will just have to try it. in my tank i have female bettas a male betta and a gourami, the rules say that they should never be put together but it still works. You will just have to experiment a bit

The thing is the reason I know she is a bully is she is bullying my paradise fish like mad, he is scared to come out from behind the filter when she is in that side of the tank and when she sees him she lunges at him, and after that patrols round the filter whilst he hides behind it, its distressing for me to watch, though if I am honest I do really like her :(

if shes bullying him that much i would put her in a seperate tank or take her back asap, the other fish must be petrified and thats not healthy. how bigs the tank?

I don't have a separate tank unfortunately :( My only worry is if the shop will not take her back what do I do?! Its a 200L she is really parading round it which also gives me concerns for any future fish as she is really dominant.
