 I have a 10 gallon tank with the following fish
- 2 neon tetras
- 1 guppy
- 1 siamese fighter
- 1 plecostomus

Im after another fish but am unsure as to what to get :/
Any ideas?
however i am aware that i need to add a few more tetras
but i dont want to overload the tank.

except for adding more neons, you're full. plecos produce much more waste as a comparatively sized fish and none of them top out at less than 4 inches.

Yep, if he is a common plec then he will reach more then 18" (I think) and will eventually outgrow your tank.

Dump the pleco and sub in 2 Cories, and then add 4 more neon tetras and another guppy.

Yea it is a common plec and will be moved to a larger tank when it gets a bit bigger

 Thanks for the help guys

Actually if your betta hasn't already attacked the neons and guppy it may happen just be aware of that. Neons need to be in a school so you can get some more neons or you can get some more guppys. The pleco is gonna grow up to be a monster if its a common. :)

since you've got the one betta and the one guppy managing together, i wouldn't rock the boat. i'm sticking to my guns and saying just flesh out the school of neons.

also, don't get cory cats and expect them to eat algae. they're scavengers, not algae eaters.

are there any algae eaters that don grow to a big size

Hi DJYates :)

Otos are excellent algae eaters, but you should keep several of them together. If you like your pleco, you will like the otos too, since they are actually tiny little sucker mouth fish.

Here's an article about them that you might find interesting:

It would be a good idea, for your pleco's sake to move him as soon as possible. He's just a baby and needs a larger tank to grow in. Keeping him in your small one will stunt his growth. Here are some pictures of full grown plecos, so you will better understand why I say this:

:D Thanks for the suggestion, i might look at getting some soon.

oh and i looked at those pictures of the common plec and they are HUGE! :hyper:

i got a common pleco only 3 inchs when i bought it i didnt know much about it so i dont know what im going to do with it when its grown
