I have gotten to the point where I don't use any lotion on my hands anymore because I'm so freaked out that I will put my hands in my tank without thinking and kill all of my fish off. The problem is that my hands are so dry because they are in fish-water all of the time. Are there any moisturizers or lotions that are fish safe? Hmmm... maybe I should come up with one. :p

That's a very good idea 3fsh. Maybe you could use an all natural skin product from a health food store. I saw show on the tube about making products (like facials and what not) from just fruits and veggies. Or maybe you could buy an aloe plant. I can't imagine natural aloe being toxic though don't quote me on it.

You could get an all natural hand cream, I have found that utter cream (yes it was invented by a dairy farmer to moisturize the udders of his cows) and isn't toxic, I don't about putting your hands in the tank withit on, but you could apply if after and then wash your hands again before putting them in the tank, it moisturizes your hands really fast.

Interesting idea, but come summer, you'd be absolutely crawling with all sorts of bugs and creepy crawlies, flies, wasps and all sorts  Just think when they smell all that yummy scrummy wheatgerm, milk and honey - they'll go nuts

We used in the military and had no problems with bugs, I was SF so I did alot of crawling through the brush and actually found it less appealing to the "critters" and repelled ticks because they didn;t like the taste I guess.

very funny blooz :p

How about wearing some disposable surgical gloves or the type you use for washing up the dishes.

If 3fsh is anything like me, my arms end up to way above my elbows in water and my arms are actually constantly dry as well, so not nice. Gloves wont work as they all have some sort of coating (mostly a non-stick powder and/or anti-bacterial) so certainly wouldn't recommend it. Apart from the fact that it will get soaked (yuk!).
If and when, I mostly fiddle with my tanks in the evening. So I'd moisturize in the morning and then by the time I get home in the evening, I rinse my arms well before I stick it in the fish water. When I'm finished, I just heavily moisturize with some cream for extra dry skin. That seems to help somewhat.

I used to make cosmetics and moisturisers for a living.
Most moisturisers are a simple inert waterproof base- this is the bit that actually gives the benefits, and then all the crap to make it small nice, look nice and sound nice on the packaging. A lot of the chemicals added as smells, preservatives an 'actives' are actually carsenogenic, mutinagenic and extremely harmful.

99% of the stuff in these products is simply there to sound good on the packaging.

So, if you use just the inert base without all the other crap, it's 100% fish safe. You could eat (small amounts) of this stuff without ill effects. Totaly safe.

And what is it?

Simple white parafin wax. Vasaline.

Moisturise your hands with a tiny amount of vasaline and they will stay supple and still be fish safe.

Vasaline is a good idea! I was going to suggest pure glycerine with aloe added.

I'm not being funny but pure neat Vaseline is just the most awful thing that makes my skin feel "closed" :/ and well, it just smells like..... Vaseline
Not that I'm one for any kind of perfumed moisturizer - in fact I prefer them as neutral as they come. But the smell and feel of Vaseline  x 10²

I do the same.
I have also given up washing the dishes, scrubbing the toilet and floors, washing any windows and dusting completely because I might also have to stick my hand in the tank eventually. :D

 Don't try to fool us - that's just an "excuse" to get out of cleaning ;)
