I have 5 platy babies at the moment in my 30gall tank. I still can't tell the diff between males and females (they all look like females atm as the anal fins haven't started folding)....

When they grow up, will they be able to recognise each other as brothers and sisters? Will they try and breed with each other?

I am getting a bit disturbed at the moment as they are in the same tank with each other as well as their half brother (their mother has since passed on)...

Just curious

I don't know if fish can differentiate whether they are siblings or not...thats an interesting question though.

I do know that they will try to breed with one another though. I have two Swordtail siblings in the same tank, one male and one female, and even though they are just starting to develop their gender differences, the male tries to breed with his sister quite a bit even though he dosen't quite have all the proper...errr...plumbing yet. :p
