right i have a 14 ish gallon fish r fun tank and the lights and filter work off one plug. the lights are switched on by a small switch on top of the hood and the filter plugs into the hood.

this mean when i go on holiday i will need to keep the lights on or off the whole time i am away.

so what i thought is:

i have bought internal filter suitable for a 20 gallon size tank
bought a light timer

then going to remove the fish r fun filter add the media to the new filter
add the new filter which has its own plug
and hook the tanks plug to the timer

this means the filter will be on 24/7 and the lights only at the times i set them to come on

does this sound ok.

that sounds fine, filter needs to run 24/7. as for lights i think it depends on whether or not u have live plants but should be ok on a timer. my ligth runs on a timer all the time

you should be able to buy an additional transformer for the tank (from the shop that sold the tank).
that way you could then run the lights of one transformer (on a timer)
and the powerhead on the other (24/7).

if you can't get a transformer let me know and I'll send you one
(provided you pay postage of course). We sell the additional
transformers for £5 at work.
Oh I would need to know the FRF/GPS/AA # (I.E. GPS461)
so I can get the correct transformer.

Thanks for pointing 0ut something I hadn't thought of when I go away in a few weeks. My bay guppies are in an "all in one plug tank":S
