I know this is geared towards tropical fish, but unfortunately I do not live in the tropics like the rest of you. I live in NJ. That said, I was wondering if I could keep a bluefish in a fish tank. I am quite adept at catching bluefish and I can take the hooks out without the fish being badly injured. Some of these fish seem to have an emotional attachment to me and I feel as if I should keep, rather than eat, them. Is this plausible?

You don't need to live in the tropics to keep tropical fish; I live in the UK! You can get very good heaters for tanks ;)

I don't know much about the kind of fish you want to keep. How big do they grow? As you want to keep them only in a tank that would allow to them to grow to their full, mature size.

You would need some strong filtration I expect. There's some good beginners articles on fishkeeping in the beginner's resource centre (link is in my sig :good: )

Good morning and welcome! :good: I live in Western New York. Winters get to -5 some days. I have 7 tropical tanks running. Sooner or later I plan on a coldwater tank with native species. If this is what you want, do research into the proper filtration and living conditions the native species needs. And check with the fish and game department to make sure it's legal to keep the fish.
