hey my swordtail has given birth during the night, last time she gave birth none servived so ive come up with this solution
bowlfish.jpg

bowl.jpg

i managed to get 5 of them in there-the rest are already eaten. hopefully some will survive-

They are so nice. I saved about 30 and as they grow up you lose some of them and now i have about 12, because you have 5 they should all get enough food and grow up to strong healthy little swordtails. Remember not to leave the light on to long because the water in the bowl will overheat. Other than that they look great and i cant wait to see pics of them as they grow up.

wouldn't the heat from the plate be transfered to the water. Good luck blue acara!
:D

the heat is not really a problem as the bulbs are far enough away and i have the lid open.
yer its a plate/bowl.
there is no filtration in there i just carefully tip the water out and add new tank water every couple of hours.

ill probley get a small tank and small filter set-up tomorrow

Nice, lol.

Just make sure you wash it well before eating out of it, because fish tanks are often infested with salmonella.

salmonella really? k i will wash out well. im a bit worried that when i get a syphon going im gonna catch something now

:thanks: that never occured to me before. my little girl has special needs. thought we are very careful that has made me think!!!

you know a breeding net only costs like £3

You can get all sorts of baddies from fish.. My grandma almost lost her finger from an infection due to cleaning her little betta tank. Didn't think she had any cuts or anything on her finger.. ended up getting infected, and she had to go twice a day for weeks to get injections to kill the infection.

I'm surprised the plate floats.. breeding nets/traps should work for a week or two.. long enough for the fry to grow large enough to go back into the main tank.

I wouldn't keep fry in a breeding trap for more then a week or 2 though. They can be hard to keep clean.
