stoke on trent England
Hi everyone ive a pictus , ive only had him two weeks and ive just noticed is belly is swollen cant understand whats wrong if anyone as any clues then plz let me know................

Need tank size in gallons or litres, water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph, how many fish and which type.
What do you feed the fish, as a bloated belly can be constipation through a poor diet, bacterial infection, to internal parasites, what does it look like when the fish goes to the toilet.
For now i would try some shelled peas, cook for a few minutes let cool down, pop out of shell, mush between fingers and add to the tank.

Tank size is 48 * 15 * 18. Jusy checked nitrates and they are fine , never had a problem with anything in tank.3 silver shark , 1 red tailed shark , 2 pictus , 1 blue gourami , 1 pleco , 3 tin foiled barbs , 3 clown loach , 2 rainbow fish , 3 chinese sucking loach.never seem him go the toilet as hes in and around my rocks and cave........ :hyper:

How many gallons is that, i would still try the shelled peas.

You are overstocked for a 45gal, clown loaches and silver sharks need very large tanks, you need at least a 90gal.

Never had any trouble with my sharks or clown loach they are the best fish in the tank, its just the 1 pictus thats got a problem. Just boiling some peas on the oven...........

Try the peas to see if that helps, if not get back to the board, good luck.

just dropped peas in my tank just got to wait.let you know tomorrow what happens.Thanks.......

Just noticed aswell the tin foiled barbs are swollen aswell.whats going on...........

You need to be feeding the fish a varied diet of frozen foods and veg.

Frozen foods like, bloodworms, brimestrimp, daphnia, krill, black worms, micro worms, you can even buy a pack of frozen foods with five different foods in them.
Veg, peas, broc, grated carrot, lettuce, cucumba, spinach, green beans, savoy cabbage, sproats, clown loaches like banana.

Look under feeding.

I use alot of the foods you have said but some of them ive never heard of putting in a tank.like banana.i use alot of frozen foods.Im getting rid of my silver sharks tomorrow . Thank you for your help wilder you helped me abit to night let you know if the fish get better.Thanks............ :hyper:

If they are on a good diet and they are bloated you are looking at bacterial infections like dropsy, swim bladder, and internal parasites, check to see what colour there poo is when they go to the toilet.

Would like to look at your ammonia, and nitrite readings too.
