Several of the fish in my community 50gal are swimming about with trails of poo of various lengths. None seem ill or in discomfort. They are all eating well, mainly flake, seems like my barbs and platies are most affected. Other than being unsightly do I have any cause for alarm. My gut and several years experiance say no, but ..........

thanks and regards, Des Cavin.....

Never heard of this being a problem, aslong as your sure its not a worm.

if it's white then it can be a problem, but i thinks it just part of nature.

Des Cavin here, Thanks all for responses, as I suspected and agree it's nothing to be concerned about.

Hlterskelter - as a point of interest why would white be a concern ???

hi
we've had swordtails in the past & they always seemed to be trailing poo & our mollies we have at the moment are the same, it can be a sign that theyre being overfed but as our mollies are constantly grazing on algae (as did the swordies) in between meals theres not alot you can do.
as said stringy or white poo can be a sign of internal parasites but sometimes it can just be caused by something white/pale that has been eaten.

i noticed my platy's have poo stuck to their butts as well and they just swom around anyhow lol.
i don't think anything is wrong as long as it falls off eventually :)
