My Parrot fish has been playing in the sand and has been moving all the sand from one place in my tank and spitting it out in another spot in the tank. Will this cause any toxic gasses to form in the sand should I ruin his sand castle and flatten the sand or would it be fine to leave it

no AS long as there are no built up pockets of toxic gas in the sand. if you regularly stir the sand up, maybe once a week then it will prevent this and he can play all he likes.

Even if the toxic gasses do form in the sand they pose no threat what so ever in fish tanks as they're instantly oxidized on contact with water, so there is never any need to agitate the sand.

Hydrogen Sulphide + Oxygen > Sulphate and Water or its full chemical equation: 2H2S + 3O2 > 2SO4 + 2H20

Cichlids have a tendency to move substrate about, it's fine.

+1 :)

Thanks for the replies I herd about these gas build ups and it got me thinking when I saw him piling up the sand but I'm glad it will be ok to just let him play :)
