Hey! I am going to post a photo of a fish i have.. i was going to say its a platy but now that i think about it think if is something else.. My issue is that and also it is very hard to tell if she is pregnant or not.. Ive had her for close to a year and she hasnt had babies and its hard to tell because as you can see in the photo she has what looks like a gravid spot, which has been there since day one.. She is a bigger fish obviously but she wasnt as big as she was.. Only thing that stands out to me is her stomach has squared recently.. just want to ask because i hope nothing is wrong with her.. she is in a tank with other platys almost all females and maybe 3/4 males.. Thanks In advance

hi, it is a platy and yes she looks very pregnant. My past experiences are that mine have had babies and have not realised until about a week later when i find some hidden in the tank. She probably has had some fry but the other fish have ate them. I find it quite hard to tell when they are just about to give birth, their bellies do square off when they are due and the males in the tank will be harrasing her. To be honest i have always let nature take its course and the strongest will survive but if i do notice small fry swimming around then i will net them and put them in a breeding box. I have also found with mine that every time i do a water change that it seems to help them deliever my husband even found a new born platy fry in our external filter when cleaning it netted him out and believe it or not the fry survived it is still in the breeding box swimming around happily it is about 4 weeks old now. Anyway best of luck with the platy just remember if you are going to put her in a breeding box or net that after about 24 hours she will get stressted so release her back into the tank :good:

Only thing for me that makes it hard to tell exactly is because of the gravid spot or whatever that stuff is at the end because it has always been there and hasnt changed. Her size has changed over time obviously couse she was growing lol.. So i am pretty sure she has never had any babies because im pretty good with this had these fish for about a year and the guppies multiply out the butt.. So just kinda like is she or isnt she because of that gravid like spot which as i said has been there the entire time and hasnt changed since she was little.. Only thing that indicates to me is the squared off stomach... None of my platys have had babies in months at least 6 months. Thanks :)

it looks like you may have a blue coral platy. she is pregnant!

I guess time will tell if she is.. would assume if nothing happens in a week or so then she isnt

She is definitly pregnant m8 - not long to go either, but im not convinced its a platy, seems more like a swordtail to me...

Can you get a updated pic (clear as possible)

ok ill try and get another photo.. when i try and get a photo of her she knows it and will make me work to get the photo... Also i dont know if it is possible that the male guppies were stressign them out.. i took the males out now so there are just some female guppys and platys..

if you have a trap why dont you photo her in it, its easier. just make it quick and snappy ;)
