Now, i'm very much into photography, so, having fish sitting right there, I want to take photos of them.

I'm wondering if anyone has any successful techniques.

I dragged out my old toy digital, only does 640x480 for a play, including wrapping it in plastic and submerging in the ank (which lead to a pack of zebra danio's trying to eat my hand!)

The problem with this camera is it's just too crap, I got some silver blurs, but the little buggers move too fast.

Now i'm thinking photos taken from inside the tank would be better then from outside. So underwater cameras came to mind, aswell as rigging up something waterproof and dipping a webcam in. Infact, I was even considering a permanent webcam set up inside the tank.

Well, i have had great sucess with my simple digital from outside the tank. I have neva gone inside the tank. I use a tripod and just set it up and wait for the fish to swim by rather than following them evrywhere. Patience is recquired. Take alot oif pics, then thin them out. Thats what i do, and i get some great shots.

My trouble is the tanin in my water. Grrr :X

I do believe there is a link or a pinned topic on fish photography round here somewhere....

Too lazy to find it? :p

Oh man! Trust me to miss the pinned thread!
I blame it on being monday morning.

Thank you!

Still, i'd like to give the submerged webcam a go sometime!

I notice when I put something in there the fish all come over to have a look, could get some interesting photos, hopefully!

submerging is not the way to go, just have clean glass, steady rest, good focus, highish ISO speed, and give 'er

yeah, no need to take pics from inside the tank

if your glass is clean you won't even notice a difference.

Just take lots and lotd of pics and keep the better ones.
I surprised myself with awesome shots last time i took some.

Here's the link

I just used macro mode on my Kodak dx4330. No stand either. It's not a good macro camera, but i still got awesome results, IMO anyway :p

They did come out nicely!

Unfortunately, I'm more into film for most things, and while digital would be handy for doing this, I don't have a digicam! I'm sure i'll work something out though. Might buy a cheap digital, don't need high mp to post on the net. :D
