Thanks for the help on my previous thread: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=277819

My cories are looking a whole lot better after 5 days of Maracyn-two. The dosing instructions say to keep it going for 5 days, but what if they aren't fully healthy yet? The breathing symptoms are back to normal, as is the color of the fish, but some are still showing deteriorated fins. Most are just the tails, but one is also having problems with his pectoral fins (I think that's what they are called... it's his "arms" ;) ) Others have shown great improvements in their tails. Any recommendations? Thanks!

If the fins don't look like there healed yet I would do another round of maracyn.
If the fins are healing just melafix.

Thanks, Wilder. Always good for advice!

Would "another round" include the larger dose on day 1, or would I just continue to do the day 2-5 dosing for what would now be days 6-10?

have you done a water change and run some black carbon.
If so just start the treatment again and go by the instructions.
Never used maracyn so don't know the instructions.

Thanks.

Maracyn says to use two packets (premeasured doses) per 10 gallons on day one, then one packet per 10 gallons on days 2-5. It says "repeat this 5 day treatment only once if necessary," but doesn't specify about the first dose. I assume they mean start over with the full day-one instructions. I did the 5th dose last evening, so I'm just now reaching the point where I would run carbon/do a water change, or continue to dose. I did a small water change a few days ago because I needed to clean the sand, but that was right before my dose that day.

I think I might keep going with the one pack per 10 gallons because I don't want to overdo it. I know it's not a good idea to under-dose antibiotics, but I don't think that should be a problem here since I already did the 5 days, right?

That means starting again with the 2 packets on day one.

Maracyn (erythromycin)
Used for gram positive bacteria generally, but found to be effective against some gram negative infections such as flex as well.

Dose according to package instructions.
Use at least for 5 days.
Will harm the biofilter
Can be combined with Maracyn 2.
