I got a second tank and decided to move some fish to it, the tank was set up and left for a week with the filter going, and i also put some food in to start it off.
The fish have been fine, but yesterday I lost my pleco, I had only had him about a week and he was put straight in to the new tank, it could have been anything that caused its death but my oscar is not eating now (he normally wants to eat constantly) and haven't seen my 2 dollars eat for about a week!!! The temperature is 26, I have never checked the water composition but I have never had trouble with that before so seems strange for that to be the problem now.
Please help!
Will move the fish back if need be but the tanks are at 2 differnent houses.

Did you move any mature media to the new tank, Maisey? If you didn't then it's almost certainly an ammonia or nitrite problem.

Do some massive water changes, and I'd very strongly recommend you do invest in a decent, liquid or tablet base, test kit or you'll never be able to tell exactly what's going on with your water, and 90% of fish health problems are related to water quality, IME.

Can only agree with fluttermoth. Unless you moved some mature media from one of you other filters. Then there is no way the tank is fully cycled.
Best mve the fish back, or put half of the media from old filter, into new filter. I would even put old water from old tank in to new tank.

Thanks guys, i'm very worried and won't be able to do anything for them today as a work till late. I heard pets at home do free water testing so I will head there tomorrow and get a kit as well. How long after the water has been tested does it take for the medicine stuff to work? I'll move them back to my other tank if its a long process.

Could it be the pleco brought a disease to the tank??? I have moved my fish back to my other tank and a bit worried they have a disease, the fish were fine for a week in the tank then the pleco was introduced, the pleco then dies and my other fish get ill. I am getting the water tested tomorrow.
And i menbt if the water was too alkaline or acidic would i have to put something in it as in medice to sort it? Lol never had to do it before so don't really know.
