I recently, (within the past 2 months), brought home a female and male swordtail-among other fish. Everyone is accounted for, except the female swordtail. I've been sick and I've kept a less close watch on them so I can't say when the last time was that I saw her.
I've turned over all the castles, and rocks, still nothing.
She couldn't have just disappeared......right?

This is an oft-recurring thread; fish freqently disappear.
Could she have jumped out of the tank? Check around.
If she has died in the tank, it won't have taken long for her body to decay and/or the other fish to dispose of it. Most fish however non-aggressive will help to clean up a dead tankmate. When my cory died all I found was the top fin.

A cou[pe of weeks ago one of my WCMMs disappeared. I saw it was ill one evening and never saw it again! (Unfortunatley after 9 months of no fatalities, the last two months have seen 2 neons and 1 WCMM die)

How well is the tank covered? Swordtails are known to be frequent jumpers... I had some swordies in my first tank and over the course of a year they all ended up jumping out of it. The cover I had that came with the tank had some openings in the back for heaters/filters/etc, and even if it was only a few square inches, eventually the little guys got out. You might want to check around, behind, and underneath your tank stand.

Nothing behind the tank, on top of the tank, next to the tank. I checked under the tank decor again. Maybe she was eaten. There have been other fatalities in the tank and the fallen fish weren't eaten, but there's always that first i suppose.

I've had unexplained dissappearances in my tank before, and eventually had to go with the assumption that they were eaten... If you cant find him outside of the tank thats prolly what happened :dunno:

The same thing happened to me jut last night. I said good night to my fishies, then this morning I went to take a head count and my male guppy had disappeared. :/ I looked allover for him and he is no where to be found.

Did he turn up? I had one that I didn't see for 2 days, then 1 day he appeared again. That's fine if they are well, but if they look sick I have more concern.

Another neon tetra has gone this week, but he had been losing his colour and swimming funnily. Could be Neon Tetra Disease despite the medicine I put in.
