Hi, I am writing with 2 problems I can't seem to figure out. I have 2 tanks a 30 gal and a 20 gal. In the 30 gal I have 4 rosy barbs and a male black swordtail platy. I noticed yesterday that my rosy barbs have missing scales on the sides of their bodies in roughly the same place on all of them. I was wondering if this is because of the way they rub up against each other when the males try to mate with the females or if it is a sign of something more serious. We checked our water stats and all came out good, although our nitrite levels were higher than normal (0) they were still well within the safe range.
In our 20 gallon tank we have a female swordtail platy. Recently her and another female were housed in a 10 gallon tank for birthing. About a day before they both gave birth we noticed that one of the females had a case of ICH. We began treating for ICH the day the fry were born. Immediately after birthing the female with ICH lost all of her vitality. She became ragged, one of her fins yellowed and she lost interest in eating. We were concerned about the ICH possibly harming the fry as well as the parents eating them so we set up a 20 gallon tank to be used for an ISO/recoup tank for the mothers. We had little option so once the water was dechlorinated and filtered a bit we put our females in the tank essentially bare. Neither of the females would eat and yesterday the more ragged female died. We have tried feeding Brine and the usual premium pellet food we give the fish but even after the death of the first female the other female has not resumed eating. She had been hanging around the bottom of the tank with the other female but when I got home from work today she seemed more vigorous swimming around a lot more. She has not eaten yet though which is beginning to worry me as it has now been more than 3 days. In addition I noticed that she appears to have a brown spot on or in one of her lips and her lips seem a bit off as well. She does not appear to have ever developed ICH. What do I do?
