Hi, my fish (astatotilapia latfciata) has had dropsy, i have been treating it for the last week and today he is (or was) looking great, no raised scales, swiming fine, not swollen no marks etc. So i thougt i would put him back in the main tank.

1 hour on (now) i have just found him laying upwards aginst the tank in the back corner?? When i forst put ihim in he was acting normal, swimming around, chasing others etc and now he is laying on his side. I tough i had beaten the dropsy so i dont know what has happened??

Any help appreciated

Thanks.

so sorry to hear that aaron, i had a betta with dropsy a while back, had exactly the same thing, seemed to get better, less swollen etc, went back to the tank literally no more than 2 hrs later and he was dead.

i think they sometimes do have a little mock recovery right before death :/

:rip:

thanks, so strange. Do you know how dropsy is caused?

he has been ok for a few days now but i was doing some water changes to dilute the salt out of the water so he didnt get shoked. I have a baby though, lets hope he is a male and they breed :) he is only 1cm though so a long way of yet

dropsy is normally a secondary thing, like you'll get bad water quality and they'll get stressed from that and devgelop dropsy, or if an illness goes untreated it can develop into it.

not really sure though tbh :dunno:

water was fine these were the readings:

ph 8
NO2 0
NH3 0
NO3 20
gh 15
kh 8

The readings are constantly like this every time i test, so it was no fluctuations, i cant see it being stress as he was quite dominant in the tank as he was one of the 1st. No other illnesses spotted.

Must of just been some bad luck me thinks :(

sometimes it does go that way....... just a case of keeping a v close eye on things then really
