Fish In Filter?

Hi every body, just started my fish tank got a few tiger barbs and about 6 neon's all doing ok now, I think? The day after I put the neon's in I lost one? Not as in dead missing? At first I thought it was hiding, the following evening it was still A.W.O.L. so I gave it up as dead. So I thought I had better find the body of the dead fish before it start's to make my tank go funny. After about ten minuets of looking still no sign of it, so I took apart the filter and my surprise it was right next to the heater. Alive and well perhaps a bit confused but ok. took me bloody ages to get the stupid fish out again, but did after a lot of bad words being said and it seem ok no worse for wear? The strange thing was it tried to swim through the small grate and wouldn’t fit?

Has any body have this happen to them? if so how did you stop it from happening again?

Boil a fine denier tight/stocking and keep it over the filter inlet.

that's a good idea, but the filter is glued to the sides and runs all the way down to the base so i don't think it would stay? Not done it again (thank god) but still got an eye on them. thanks any way

What tank are you using?

i think it's a Juwell Rio 300 (a two foot by one and about 14" high?) with a power head? sorry don't know which one? not much help am I sorry?

well, if its juwel, is ur filter stuck to the side properly. I ask this because wen i got my 1st juwel, after 2 yeas the filter fell off and i stuck it back on but the fish always seemed to get trapped in there no matter how hard i tried to prevent it, the soloution was to completely submerge the black box and it worked and i got no more fish stuck in the filter.
soz i gave you a life stroy of one of my tanks but it may help you lol

Hi, in the jewel system, there are three holes in the filter cover at the top (unless I am mistaken). My bet would be on that the fish jumped in through one of these holes. Try covering these holes with something, such as a piece of card, and the fish should not be able to do this again.
