Fish In Cycling

At some point, you have to let her live with the consequences of her own decisions. You've informed her of what will likely happen, you've tried to talk to her multiple times. I think you have to sit on your hands an let what will be will be. Be ready if she should ask for your advice, but I think otherwise you're going to have to let this go. It's not fun, it's going to break your heart, but I think you've done all you can do. Let her learn from the consequences of her own actions.

Ha! reading that makes it sound like she's the kid and you're the adult. But sometimes these roles do get reversed.. It is a good life lesson, sometime you just have to let what will be will be.

Well, ya' see, she kept fish in the early 80s-mid 90s. And apparently fish keeping was VERY different back then, or she was very misinformed... Or it could just be a feeble mind with old age ;)

Haha, yeah, back in the 70s my dad kept...er, killed fish. When my mom and I came home with a tank one day, he threw the biggest fit because he knew that anything we put in there would be dead within a week and within a month the tank would be sitting empty in the basement. Of course, he said when he kept fish the "damn filter" didn't work and even though he did water changes every few months the water still got bad and his fish would die. I did a fish-in cycle in that tank, with neon tetras, because I knew next to nothing about fishless cycling. They all survived. Just make sure you monitor things carefully and do daily water changes. Actually, those lasted three years until I had a disease outbreak that killed all my neons a few months ago.

The scary thing is that now that I'm at college, my dad's the one who has to do my water changes for me. I have to call home every weekend and hound him to get him to vacuum the gravel and change water. I still don't think he does it all the time, I think it probably gets done every other week or so.

This makes me glad that my mother recognizes that I know better when it comes to fish, and wants to learn the proper way to do things. :/

Anyway, if she's being a donkey your only option is to make her regret it by just not helping. I hope after she kills a hundred dollars she'll ask you for help.
