ok i started my fish in cycle on 26th december when i added a bottle of "tetra safestart" and 2 guppys

scince then i have been doing a 25% water change every day if i get an reading for ammonia or nitrite to get them back to zero and i have conststantly had 10ppm if nitrate

however the last 2 days i have had a constant reading of

ammonia:0
nitrIte:0
nitrAte:10
pH:7.4

therefore i have not done a water change for 2 days

is it looking like im nearing the end of the cycle?

Are you using a liquid test kit or strips?
How big is your tank?

I doubt 2 guppies are going to have much of a bioload, so if your tank is say 125L then the chances are you might have enough bacs to cope with two little guppies, but you will mini cycle every time you add a couple of fish.

im using one of those APi test kits and i have a 60l tank, i started with 2 guppys but about 3 days ago i added 2 danios as well so i currently have 4 fish

Test your tap water in nitrates are in tap water Tom
i'm in devon and have 10-20 ppm nitrates in my tap water

you should be aiming for under 40ppm nitrates 20 or less is better but 10 is fine seeing as your in devon aswell your water is most probably similar to mine so dont worry

you wont be anywhere near the end of your cycle yet hun , you havent had a nitrite or ammonia spike in the tank

what fish are you cycling with ? and what size tank have you got ?

ok update:

still have no readings of ammonia or nitrite and 10ppm of nitrate for the last 2 days in my tank water

it is a 60l tank with 2 guppys and 2 danios, its been cycling since 26th december when i added a bottle of tetra safestart

i just tested my tap water and go readings of

ammonia:0
nitrite:0
nitrate:10
ph:7.6

am i still in the cycle? because its only been under 2 weeks

i dont think you have reached a spike yet so keep an eye on the results
you dont need to be doing daily water changes for 10 nitrate as its in your tap water anyway like i thought

do your daily tests and if you show ammonia or nitrites change 50% water right away other than that if your nitrates show 20ppm then change 30% water

if these results are all ok as
0 ammonia
0 nitrite
10 nitrate

then just do a weekly 30% water change but as i say keep an eye on the results
if your results stay stable for 7 days without a water change then you can add another fish

sorry if its a bit muddled up i hope i have explained properly it , i have ms and brain is confused sometimes it doesnt come out right lol

cheers Sarahx
