Hello all, my Aquarium has now finished its Fish in cycle, although it wasn't ideal, I lost 1 fish and 1 shrimp in the process, so now I'm looking for more fish to add - slowly of course

Tank 68 litres (17 Gallons)
Temp 25.5 (Degrees 79 F)

Currently I have:

2 Zebra Danios
5 Neon Tetras
1 Cherry Shrimp

I would like a Betta, and I know that the neons may be tempted to nip the fins, but even when I had a male guppy in there they never bothered with it.

I want interesting, but also easy to keep fish, I don't want guppies if I'm getting a betta, for obvious reasons, and I've also heard that shrimp don't count towards bio load so I guess I could have a few more of those. I also want something that maybe eats algae aswell?

Any suggestions welcome

Thank you,

Andy

Hi,

I wouldn't get a Betta because they prefer to be alone and in a 17 gallon tank with other fish, it may feel too crowded in (depending upon its personality). Also, can't remember where I read this (here or on another forum), but a person had neons and a betta in the same tank and walked over to the tank to find a neon sticking out of the Betta's mouth! They will eat anything that fits into their mouths. Mine tries to eat my finger!

I have three Bettas (two male and one female) and they all live alone.

otos...Brilliant suggestion thanks! I had been looking into plecos, but saw how big they grew, these otos seem ideal! thanks FHM

any other fish suggestions whilst we are at it?

GuppyGoddess, thanks for the heads up, I will continue to research the betta and the neons, and will definatley weigh up wether it would be practical in my tank, (

Well, first I would build up the schools of danios and tetras to at least 6 of each species given that they are schooling fish :)
