hey,

can anyone tell me how do we upload images on this site...i mean upload image related to the topi in the post screen.

its hard to ask qs. with no pics and so i need to upload the images...which seems to be impossible.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok my qs is quite strange. I need to know the names of the three fishes i own.

1. Its more like a gold fish, though its fins are not that big and flowy. It has a seemingly long body and is white and orange is colour.
One of them has a orange path on its head, right above the forehead area.

2. Its completely black and the eyes have this glass dome like covering. It feels like in case you get a small needle close to that dome, it would burst.

3. Its silver and amost flat. The lower mouth is bit more protruding than the upper area. If some light is directed towards the body, one can literally see the inner parts of the fish...(something like a silver dollar but im not sure).

I have lots of other qs that any begginer would have, but if you would get this much, i would be grateful.

thanks

Heres a thread on how to upload pics on the forum :) ;

http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=1680

How many inchs long are your fish and are they coldwater or tropical?

hey thanks...now one more thing....i knw how to upload a pic:)...its just that i cannot figure out the browse button when i create a new post...
i can upload an avatar and a personal pic, but how do you upload when u create a post.?

secondly the golden fish is around say....hmmm....4 inches , the black is aroun 2.5 inches and the silver one is aorund 1.5 inches.

the black one looks asthough it might be a black moor fish, I will need to find more info on it though.

I was just wondering, are all these fish in the same tank?

Its just that the two top ones are cold water and the silver one looks like its tropical.

pic 1: Looks like a red cap oranda to me(type of goldfish/karp)
pic 2:it is indeed a black moor(type of goldfish/karp aswell)
Pic 3:looks like a white skirt tetra, which is tropical and the above two or coldwater and should not be in the same tank.
The tetra should be in a tank no less then 25 gallons and should be in a school of at least 6 but 3 is the minimum.

Hey DD and chishnfips,

Firslty yup all are in the same tank...this thing is that out here, no many shops really know which fish goes with which...they quite randomnly advice and if all goes well (which has been til now with my fishes), its cool.
Its my first time to have an aquarium so dont know which fish is what and which goes where etc. its been around 4 months that these fishes are in the same tank.

Secondly i have two of each in the tank as of now. So total of 6 fishes. The size of the tank is about 1.5 feet bottom width, 2 feet in height and around 2.5 feet in length.

Thirdly, the so called Red cap fish has this patch on its body. If anyone can let me know if its just normal or does it have to be treated.

thanks

I dont think its a red cap that you have, I am still trying to find out what it is,

The red cap has a much more prominent (lump) on its head and the one you have doesn't look like it has one at all. and the red caps body is much stumpier than yours aswell.

I think your tank is about 19 Gallons or there abouts.

really you shouldn't have the tetras in with your goldfish as they require different temperatures to live in.

You should maybe think about taking them back and getting different fish.

As dwarf dude said tetras are a shoaling fish and should be in larger groups.

About the patch,

Can you describe it slightly, its hard to see it in the photo. it could be a bacterial infection. :dunno:

Hey Chis,

sending some more links for a better understanding...

this is the patch im talking about-

this is the whole tank-

1. pls let me know how i could keep the tetras (what could be the prob if i leave them in the same tank?)

2. let me know if the tank seems alright interms of the setting.

thanks

Its difficult to tellexactly what your fish has as the pic is quite blurry, but it looks like either;

tuberculosis

http://www.fishpalace.org/tuberculosis_shawnprescott.jpg

septicemia(note the bloody streaks/patches)

http://www.fishpalace.org/septicemia_markdelgrosso.jpg

or an untreated case of columnaris(looks more "raw" when untreated)

http://www.flippersandfins.net/flexibacter.htm

If you could describe the patch in greater detail though it would help alot, like how long the fish has had it and what sort of texture does it have etc  .
I have to agree though with chishnfips, the tetra won't be happy in your tank- putting tropical fish in coldwater temps changes their metabolism(same goes for coldwater fish in tropical temps), this effects their entire body from their activity levels, general state of health, life expectancy, behavior etc- eventually it will result in death for the fish in question and its not a nice way to go at that.
There aern't any tetras as far as i know that will live happily in coldwater temps and the same goes for goldfish in tropical temps, if you want the best for your fish you should either rehome the tetra or get it its own suitably sized tropical tank with proper heating and filtration with some tetras of its same species  .

ps: i could be wrong but i think your first goldfish is a Wakins goldfish, your other one is definatly a black moor;

http://www.####ftypes.html

i don't think that it is a wakin, as they are very rare, and they also have two tails, although their tails are not long and flowy!
it could just be a common goldfish, they do not have very long flowing tails, the goldfish with long flowing tails you are thinking of are comets

common goldfish:

comets:

the black fish is definatly a black moor

black moors:

it may be somesort of Furunculosis

hey thanks...atleast now i can stick for sure that the black is a Black moor, the white is a tetra and the ohter two are SOME kind of gold fish:)....after all the name sure is not as important has their health.

1. Chis, The purple patch developed after this gold fish had black patches across its body and looked somthing like this- which sure does not seem like a furunclosis!!!

these black patches as told my few ppl, is just a normal colour changing mode that this fish goes through. They came and went on their own.

PURPLE PATCH - the path is internal and its just a colour that i can see. It feels like some internal blood clot, or some part being fading on the inside.

2. The tank does not have a filter, since i manually remove and add water every two days. The tank has a heater.

3. They seem to be all fine...how do i figure out if the tetra is not fine in the tank?

4. Most imp, how is the world am i to know which is a coldwater, and which is a tropical without even knowing what the name is....the stores here done really say the real name...its something different.

where abouts are you?

the coldwater fish do not need a heater, and heating their water to the temps that tropical fish need will severely shorten thier lives, and cause undue stress :/ however if the tropical fish (the tetras) are not in heated water the same will happen for them. it is very important that you either take the goldfish back to the shop (or another tank) or take the tropical fish back to the shop (or another tank) and remove the heater.

when you say that you do manual water changes once every two days, do you remove ALL of the water, or just a small amount?
