I got this fish from the lfs when I first started cycling the tank because the lady there said it was very hardy and good for beginners.
-erik

er is it marine? Sorry im confused by the planted background :*)

If its marine then it does closley resemble a damsel of some description. Seems to fit the category of hardy etc.. they do get very aggressive though so if it is a damsel then be careful as it might establish the entire tank as its own and attack any fish that comes in after it.

p.s. You should never cycle a tank with a fish, there are other more humane ways and just as fast if not faster. :/

i agree with a damsel. it also could be a dwarf angel. i really have to start to get back into sw fish. have an opportunity to get a 30 gallon soon.

Im pretty sureits not a dwarf angel as there appears to be no gill spike which all angels have.

That aint no Dwarf IMO, does resemble a damsel (a little) but not one I have ever seen

Sure it aint some sort of Cichlid

Hi,
thanks for all of the replies, Firstly this is a saltwater tank just to clarifie that, the background was already on the tank when I got it and it looks better than the white wall behind the tank so I didnt take it off. I just thought I'd add that the fish has yellow front fins, the fins next to the gills. I since starting my tank have realized that cycling with fish isn't as good but I've had it for 3 months now and the water quality is almost perfect
0-nitrites
0ammonia
5-nitrates
8.2 ph
salinity .23
This is what the water quality has stayed steady at for the last 3 weeks since I got a new test kit. How far am I in the cycling? am I ready to add somemore fish or exchange some of my fish for different fish?
-Erik

3 months and water peramters look very good. no problem adding more fish. However.... i am sure this is damsel so whether it will be as impressed at having a room mate might be questionable. :/

this does appear to be a damsel. if so then adding more fish might be a prob due to damsels not liking change much. i would suggest some fish but we dont know the tank size or inhabbitants.

Hey,
Right now I have 2 yellow tail damsels that other damsel, a blue velvet damsel and a tomatoe clown. I really want a tang or butterfly fish. I am looking at a yellow tang that I have been watching at the lfs. I am already planning on getting a larger tank (100 -150) after a year or so because I hav realized that my tank is not big enough for the fish that I want to have, So if I get a tang or butterfly fish will it be happy in a 55g for a year or so until I can save up enough for a bigger tank?
-Erik

tolds ya i was rusty. i would say no to the tang. they really need a LOT fo swimming space. the butterfly fish may be okay for a while space wise but they can be a hassle to wean onto frozen foods. i would say wait until you have a lrger tank set up so that there is no chance of having something go wrong and your fish being stunted

yeah i would wait.

I have in the past resomended yelkloweye/bristletooth tangs for smaller tanks but as you have your eyes set on the yellow i would advise to wait as they are very territorial.
