Its a Veija synspillum, or Firehead Cichlid, a Central American Cichlid. Its either very stressed or from a poor breeding line as its colours are very faded.

Yeah he looks Vieja to me - he looks like my sister's intermedium without the same markings. I think CFC's spot on

yeah he is a very dull colour hes got some light purple on his head he doesnt have many makings and his colour is very dull ..

what colours do these fish normally have he is very light in colour but hes still a beauty great character too

Veija synspillum. These days it is hard to find a true Veija synspillum as alot are hybrids, synspillums bred with other Veija.
Main colours are red/pink and golden yellow.

this has no red or pink he looks a dull lilac ,, he must be a throwback

That's a shame as they are great and beautiful fish. Maybe it needs more time and then it will colour up.

Veija synspillum hybrid for sure. Even at a youngish age you can see the colours shine through.

how big do the vieja fish get then? i no nothing on them, but when i seen that picture the genus sprang to mind!

All of them get pretty big. 10, 12, 14". The smallest kind grows to 6"

hes about 9 inch already but i have no idea on his age ,, my hubby brought this from a garden centre ,, he saw a slightley larger 1 but he asked about his temprement and he wasnt very good so they sold this 1 to him as he was with other fish ,, his colour has stayed the same for the past couple of months he only lives with a oscar and a plec
