So yesterday I inherited 4 tetras of some form off a mate but after a day and night of googling I can't find what they are

Missing that black spots on the fins for X-ray.

Looks more like a yellow phantom to me:

You do need to look closely!

I'm currently sitting 7 feet away from my tank and can still clearly see the black on the fins of my x-rays. This fish in the photo also looks too yellow.

I'm still sticking with the phantom.
