anyone have any advice?

i dont want anything to happen to them.

pls somoene help

i am fairly new to all this

What kind of fish? What other fish do you have with it and in what size tank? What are your water parameters (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH)? Has your tank cycled? How long have you had all the fish in this tank? Are there any plants in the tank?

The first symptom is that of constipation or dropsy. Constipation can be helped by not feeding for a couple of days and then giving a shelled mashed pea to the fish to eat.
Dropsy is not as simple to cure and a lot more deadly. It is an internal bacterial infection and you will need to treat with some appropriate mediaction.

I am not sure which it is but I am afraid it will probably be dropsy. Do you have a seperate isolation/hospital tank to treat sick fish in?

The bump on it's side is what leads me to think it's some kind of internal infection. However, it could also be a tumour. Tumours cannot be treated but are rare and usualy don't bother the fish much and it can lead a normal life.

Its lethargic behaviour however, suggests there is deffinately something wrong. I would isolate the fish and add some medication to the water. Let it go without food for a day and then feed a pea. See if there is any improvement.

I agree with sylvia, the fish sounds in a bad way i'm sad to say you will probably end up losing it.

ohh... i duno it doesnt sound like that

umm... it is a sword tail the thing on it is looks like yellow thing groiwng on it. its very visible but not very large. oh i do hope its not serious. it looks gross though
its sorta yellow is, it looks something like puss. just got there one day
i usually clean the filters and stuff once a month but this month i had no time :X is that why?

It sounds like an ulcer you will need to treat with anti internal bacteria med, and add melafix to the tank.

whew, i have melafix but my sister is doing her paper infront of hte fish tank. i will have to wait till later for it
pfft

will this spread to the other fish?
is it painful?

sorry im like fish stupid. i just woke up one day and set my tank up.

You could also do a salt bath on the fish, do any of your fish have white patches on their body.

If you only have swordtails in the tank I would suggest adding some salt and some internal bacterial infection medication - melafix may or may not help with this...

Could you answer the questions I asked before please?

If you just put some fish in there your tank is probably not yet cycled (unless you put the first fish in over 2 months ago). Also, you shouldn't be changing the filter media at all. Only rinse it out in tank water you have removed after a water change (gently - don't wash it too much) once a month or so. You should be doing 25% water changes with de-chlorinated water once a week by the way.

Please check this link - http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=10099 It's long but I can assure you it'll be well worth while and will save some fish.
