Just bought a couple of new platies, and after staring at them intently I've noticed that the female (which is yellow) has a white spot on it's tail fin. I think it's the start of white spot (there no dusting on the rest of it) but just has this grain of 'rock salt' on it's tail.

I have got in my fish pharmacy

Salt
Pimafix
Melafix
Internal Bacteria Med
Velvet
Meth Blue

Can I use any of these for it or do I have to buy a specific med??

There's alot more to fish keeping than buying a tank and sticking a fish in it!!

If the spot look like a grain of salt yes it's whitespot.
The velvet med should be fine.

Thank you, will have a go tomorrow.

I've increased the heat slightly to 26 is this ok or should it be higher/lower??

Higher 30.
Don't forget to increase aeration in the tank.

Okay the tank has been dosed with the velvet med (for white spot) and I've increased the temp to just below 30!

I've turned the pump thingy round so it swishes the water round and makes more of a splash, is this right? How long should I keep the temp this high, I don't want to poach 'em :look:

I read the velvet instructions and it says to dose the tank every 2 days until it's gone, how quickly should I see a recovery??

Can't say how long it will take to go, every tank and fish is different.
Good luck.
