my fish and my passion for tropical fish has quickly out grown my tank  i have purchased a new one (160ltr) by using most of the water, plants etc from my other tank will this b enough to pop my new fish straight in? also any recommendations for filters and heaters pref reasonably priced... ps just discovered this site and think its :good: fintastic x x x

Well any current filter media, you can put into your new filter in your new tank setup this will help with transfer of bacteria. Also using the same stones from the current tank would be beneficial too.

:hi: to the forum!! :kana: :kana:

:hyper: thank u soooooooooo much for replying was getting paranoid lol... thought transfering gravel filter ect would b enuf... but great to hear it off some1 more experienced.... how long do u think i should leave new tank to mature b4 i buy any more fish? thanks again mmmmmmmwah x :*

Well you would have to daily testing and monitor water stats closely. You cannot just look at the tank and think oh it's ready. Testing is key to set up.

Also how many fish will you be starting with in the new tank?

Good Luck!! :fish: :fish:

well at the mo i've got 4 gouramis 4 zebras 9 neon 2 sucking loach (tiny) 1 siamese and 4 guppies :D would like to get bristelnose maybe couple of bala sharks x

Don't feed the fish for 24 hours before the move, and feed lightly for the next week, about 1/3 to 1/4 normal. Less food in means less waste produced, giving your bio filtration a chance to deal with any bacterial die off. As was stated, moving your cycled filter media is the most important part, make sure to keep it wet, as the bacteria will die if it dries out.

I would wait a couple of weeks before adding any more fish, this will give the bio filtration a chance to grow back if need be, and for the existing fish to settle into their new environment.

BTW, welcome to TFF, and congrats on the larger tank! :good:
