Hi i am planning a 6x2x2 (120 UK gallons i think) simple fish only tank. Im not sure what to get as far as fish are concerned i want

- 1 x triggerfish (Niger or Picasso cant decided)
- 1 x tang (regal or yellow)

which would you suggest out of the above options and what would you house along with them? any suggestions as to what fish would go nicely?

thanks

Oh and is 225 pounds good for the 6x2x2 tank? its 89 pound for a 4x12x12 at my LFS

(have reworded my OP)

yep, sorry, imagine if it were inches

All i know i really want would be a yellow tang and a sort of clown fish and i hear they are both fine in either tank

what would be good fish to go along with them in each tank?

There is not really any such thing as UK gallons, they are imperial gallons ;)

A 6x2x2 is 150 imperial gallons (180US) and is a great size for SW FOWLR.

If you want a challenge, there are a couple of species of SW rays that should just about fit in a 6x2x2.

Otherwise you have the options of fish such as Leopard groupers and mid sized predators (up to about a foot/15").

If you want a really interesting set up, fill about 8" deep with sand and go for garden eels (about 10-20 or so). That would look very good.

The two fish you have stated you want are somewhat common. Really you want to look at some fish and decide what sort of tank you really want, whether you want a community, or predatory or more specialised. The Reef Fishes series of books by Scott Michael have some good information, and Volume 1 focuses on a lot of the less commonly kept species. Getting sight of that may help you.

£225 is not too bad for a tank, though I think you can get it cheaper from Keith at Windsor Aquatics (a forum sponser). See what price he can do, but I am sure that CFC got his 6x2x2 (no stand or hood) for around the £150-160 mark.

thanks for the help, i am in 2 minds, i dont know if i should go FO or FOWLR.

I am looking for a nice few community fish,my one 'wish' fish is a picasso triggerfish, as for companions i am not sure. I have had a look around can anyone suggest some 'families' that would be ok with a picasso? Do they eat smaller fish? are they ok with tangs? just to give me somewhere to start some research

thanks

Picasso's should be fine with Tangs. If you do end up leaning towards a community tank, consider angelfish (both fullsize and dwarf), other tangs, larger non-reef safe wrasses (coris, thalassoma, etc), maybe a harlequin tusk wrasse.

I agree with Andy, we can make all the suggestions in the world, but in the end you've gotta pick the fish. Good thing you've got a lot of options with a tank that big :good:

Thats the thing there are so many fish and so many options im just stumped. Thanks for the suggestions i will look them up when my headaches gone (computer screen glare). Well im going to take it slow and still have lots of time for reading and research and to save money for better equipment, would rather wait longer and get what i want than rush and be stuck with somthing that dosnt function (what happend before).

well thank you guys for your help and im sure you will be happy to answer my millions of questions in the comming weeks :p

If it were me I would probably end up with a group of some sort of moray. Remember also that planktonivorous triggers can be kept in groups; it may create an interesting display.

Go with the porcupine fish; they are beauty little fish. (I little but are they really !!!). I would absolutely love to have the space and funds to keep a porcupine puffer and maybe some sort of trigger fish with it.

Regards
