i have a 20 g tank and has already gone threw the initial cycle. the tank is currently emptly and im ready to get fish (there was a pair of brilliant rasboras in there that died however the amonia levels and everything else are fine now). I would like to have a combo of a school of small fish and a couple or a few larger fish but am unsure as to what kind of larger fish will be ok in a tank that small and what would be a good smaller schooling fish to have along with the larger ones, any suggestions?

different fish, especially bigger one w/ little ones, will not school 2gether. in fact the bigger fish might eat the small ones! as for a schooling fish, tetras r a good choice. u could get a bunch of the same kind, maybe 15 or so, depending on the size of the fish for your tank, or a lot of different schools, like 3 different types of tetra, 5 of each. i think some types of danios school if they hav a decent size group, say like 6 or more. my belief w/ tetras is that if u hav say 7 glowlight tetra w/ 1 lemon tetra, the lemon tetra will most likely school w/ them, only cuz there r no more of their species in the tank, and they r similair in size. but i dont suggest that. i dont kno any bigger schooling fish, i think fish only school for safety, and bigger fish r pretty safe. HERES a website that explains this stuff a little more that i did. hope i helped! -heart  , ally86ozzy

well i realize the big ones wont school with the little ones i just want them to be able to coexist i just want a couple fish in there that are bigger and also have a school of small preferably active fish
