Ok, I'm going nuts trying to decide what to put in my 55 gallon. Hopefully it will be cycled soon (fishless cycling --day 16).

Anyway, thinking of congo tetras....I've been doing research and every site I check says something different. So, my question is: are congos ok with a ph of 7.8? And if so, what is the minimum number I should get?

If you can get them from an lfs that matches your ph they shouldn't be any problem, I think 8 would be nice.

Yah I'm planning to get some of these soon for my tank. They are really neat looking.

I'm no Tetra guru, but I've been told that congos are unusually aggressive and nippy.
Choices for tankmates would certainly be limited a bit, but I think a school of 8 or so would would look amazing.

Hmmmm....so perhaps 8 or so congo tetras, plus I have my plec which will be moved from his current 20 gallon. What else could I include that would not detract from, but rather complement the congos?

This is some good starting info on the congos. What about actually working with
the African-based theme suggested in this thread and getting maybe a couple of Kribs and some true upsidedown "synodontis nigriventis" type catfish?
I like the African-based theme. I think I finally have my list completed! I just need to do a little "re-decorating" inside the tank... Many thanks!

Yeh, I noticed that after I typed my reply. So please tell me more about them -- I've been searching the web the past few minutes and have not come up with anything useful yet....
