What fish would make a good home in a 5 gallon tank, excluding a betta? Maby zebra danios?

yeah, a few danios would be ok, it all depends on what type of fish you are into.... maybe something colorful like guppys, or something else like a single fish like a puffer mentioned above, do you have any preference as to what type of fish you would like

I would reccommend Guppies or some other small livebearer. Very cool to grow your own fish tribe :hey:

Yeah, I've been looking at getting maby 1 male and 3 female guppies. Just a question though, do you keep them in slightly brackish water?

i thought Bumblebee gobies were brackish? or are they like mollys and do better in slightly salted water?

They can be kept succesfully in hard water! but most prefer to keep them in lightly brackish water! Brakish by definition IS slightly salted water!

Bumblebee's are great, they will spawn in your tank if you give them the right shelter! Then you can have your own "fish tribe"

ace ive been looking into these

if you plan to take care of bumblebee gobys, be prepared to make your own live brine shrimp and misquito larva. They tend to only go after live foods -_-

The puffer would be good. Make sure it isn't a figure 8, as they can get too big :/
bettas are always nice.
Maybe a team of khuli loaches depending on what kind of tank it is.
Guppies - as said above.

you could have a team of shrimp if you went with the betta. But be prepared for deaths once in a while on the shrimpy part. -_-

Well, I've already got a betta in another 5 gallon tank, but I just dug up an old one I've had down my basement for a while and decided to set it up. I think I've got my mind set on a dwarf puffer. Anything I should know about them (besides that they love snails :) ).

Yes, they need LOTS of decor. Tons. They don't eat flake food, they are carnivores and need fresh, frozen or freeze-dried worms and such. If you feed them freeze-dried, soak the worms first to rehydrate them, preferably in vitamin water. Be prepared to treat it for intestinal parasites, as almost all of them in stores tend to have them. If the stomach appears to be sunken in, it has IPs and needs to be treated. They are aggressive and territorial, as all puffers are (individual personalities may vary of course), and should be in a species only tank. The only thing that has shown to be fairly successfully kept with DPs are otos.

Any questions or for more information, I recommend dwarfpuffersdotcom.

Obviously you'll only be able to house 1 maybe 2 DP's They are very messy eaters and put a huge load on the filtration system for their small size!
