i have a tank which contains mollies, neon tetra, lamp eyed tetra, and some platies. i am currently feeding them tetra color tropical flake food and i was wondering if i could give them anything else which is frozen? how often should i feed them this frozen food if i do give it to them?

You can try most frozen foods. Blood worms is a favorite in my tank, but you don't want to feed them too often because they are very fatty and can lead to a fish becoming constipated which can lead to swim bladder problems. There are many other foods out there. Its hard to tell you how much to feed because I don't know how many fish you have.

Other favorites include peas (deshelled), cucumber, zucinni, the clown loaches love bananas but those need to be taken out very quickly like within 30 min, to not mess up your water. I have heard of people shredding and cooking carrots. I have done lettuce and spinach before.

On a random note, my fish love algae wafers and sinking shrimp pellets. I don't have any tetras, but i am talking about a pack of tiger barbs swarming around an algae wafer or my opaline gourami, duddly, marking his territory off when shrimp pellets are in the tank and literally chasing everyone else away.

Ideally mollys should have alot of veg in their diet as they are omnivorous fish which lean towards the more veg orientated part of their diet rather than meat, algae wafers, cucumber, peas, spinache and melon will all be accepted.

When feeding bloodworms, no fish should get more than 5 bloodworms each, and a single cube can contain hundreds, so be careful not to overfeed- feeding some veg along with the bloodworms will be beneficial for your fish as well to help their digestion.
Other frozen foods you can try out is daphinia, tubifex, krill and river shrimp etc  .

Hi deliverance :)

If you feed your fish frozen food, be extra sure not to put in more than they can eat within a reasonable amount of time. Frozen food is meat and it will spoil quickly if not eaten. This will provide food for harmful bacteria and could result in your fish getting bacterial infections.

Just start small, with a half or quarter of a cube and see how they do. You can increase the amount once you have a better idea of how much they will eat before they lose interest in it. :D

if i use algae wafers, cucumber, and peas will the other fish eat them as well? do i need to cook the peas (and take off the shell) or the cucumber? the algae wafers can be any company ones it does not matter? i know hiraki makes some are they good?

Hi deliverance :)

Hikari is a good brand. Wardley makes a product called Spirulina Discs, that I like very much too. They can stay in the tank for up to 12 hours before you have to remove any leftovers.

I use frozen peas, cooked according to package directions, and just squeeze the insides into the tank. :D

does this sound ok? i feed normal flake food everyday, blood worms every 2 days , and peas everyother day ?

sounds fine to me. technically your fish can survive off flakes alone so whatever you do extra is great for their health, provided its not tons of bloodworms.

 sounds like your fish are going to really enjoy their new choice of food or supplement.

Gosh some Husbands don't have that many choices to choose from  .
