Tank size: 33 gallon
pH: 7.2
ammonia: 0
nitrite: tap water is 40 not tested in tank but can do if needed.
nitrate: 0.10 (its between the .25 and 0 on the API test) - going to do water change after post - bit confused as to why this is happening as the tank was fishless cycled for about a month.
kH: n/a
gH: n/a
tank temp: 27 C

Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior):

No external problems fish are showing good colour and acting as normal BUT they are occasionally flashing against rocks in the tank I have looked very close and there is nothing on them no ich or anything on gills or in tails. It started with the female but the male has started as well now.

Volume and Frequency of water changes: I did a 30% change yesterday as the nitrite had risen to .10 (tank had been fishless cycled not sure why this is happening) this was the first water change

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank: Gravel substrate and sponge and ceramic media - no carbon in the tank.

Tank inhabitants: 2 Honduran Red Points

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration): 2 Honduran Red Points (affected fish) Added large Java Fern on wood yesterday after they were up rooting the original plants - to be honest they only started flashing after this was added.

Exposure to chemicals: Just plant ferts and stress coat.

Abolutley gutted about this. Anyone got any ideas with this? As I am pretty inexperienced with disease.

Will the medication bump my cycle?

*edit - after a bit of reading I have a feeling this may be nitrite poisoning from the low amount lingering in there I seem to recall hearing about low traces of nitrite being really bad for them? Done the water change just letting things settle then will test again. Off to get bigger buckets tonight me thinks.
