I suddenly had a thought as I do from time to time, that there a lot of people out there with fish they don't want, can't keep or whatever.
This may have been discussed before but I would have no idea what to search for so what the heck.

You may have heard of a service call Freecycle run on google group.
what happens is you offer your stuff to other people prior to getting rid of it or dumping it. It takes the form of

"Offered: Set of cast iron saucepans in Oxford area."

This means that you have some saucepans to offer and the other peeps know where they have got to drive to, to collect them.

You are likely to get several email responses to this and you choose who you would give them to based on first come first served OR whoever gives the best reason for having them.

You then mark the item as "Taken: STC Set of cast iron saucepans in Oxford area." STC = Subject to collection"

You may post a wanted as well "Wanted: Set of cast iron saucepans in Oxford area."

Now to my point (at last I hear you say).

Would there be any benefit of starting a forum on Fish Forums to do the same thing with fish, in fact anything aquatic?

In my instance I have a couple of Pim cats to give away and a whole load of black molly fry that will need to go in the near future. I could just take them to the LFS but I would prefer that another enthusiast gained the benefit of my fish and I would feel better knowing they have gone to a good home.

There are plenty of newbies (me included) on the forum and as we all know the cost of setting up a tank from scratch can be astronimical so an arrangement like this would be beneficial to both parties. Although this would not be exclusive to nubes and would be open to anyone.

Also PPL often find themselves with airtube, pumps, heaters and sometimes tanks etc that they never use so those could be offered as well.

So you could end up with "Offered: 2 x Pim Pictus cats in Oxford area", then follwed by the body of the message giving more details but NOT the actual address, this is discussed via PM later.

OR "Wanted: Pim Pictus or Pleco for 5' tank in oxford area" etc etc.

I hope you get the idea...but do you agree?

For it to work though I think it would need to be another forum and not just a topic!

Just a thought

Cheers

Sorry, I just realised I have posted this to the wrong forum. Could admin move it to Chat please?

I feel sorry for you, typing that lot out. Then finding out that, as wolf said, we already have one :fun:

Doh!

It just shows you huh? I have never scrolled down beyond the tropical section so have never seen it. It just shows what you miss out on when you don't explore!

I shall have a root through it now.

Cheers
