Fish Eggs

Just an update on them, looked at them this mornin some have gone their is about 4 left and gone white is this good or bad?

Is it a good thing for them to be white? They was a brownish yellowish colour yesterday

It's bad that they've gone white. They were most probably infertile to start with, but whatever the reason, once they go white there's no chance they'll hatch, I'm afraid.

Do you know who in your tank laid them?

Shame, an I think it was my firemouths

Or it could have been my convicts

They'd be better off being raised by the parents really then; I expect your pair are young and haven't quite 'got the hang of it' yet. They're normally very, very good parents.

Ok it's just that iv heard a lot that fish tend to eat their eggs so I didn't want to put them back with them just incase, do you know how long it could be for them to spwan again?

Fish usually only eat their own eggs when they're young and inexperienced; this is also more likely if the parents have been raised artificially; there's some evidence to suggest that fish need to have experienced parental care themselves to know how to do it.

Although most fish do learn eventually, in some highly artificially bred fish (angels are a prime example) the fish are losing their natural parenting abilities, which is a terrible shame :(

Oh, forgot to say; they should spawn once every two/three months.

This is the first time fish have spawned for me so I was excited and will leave them to it if I see them spawning again, they are showing signs already male chasing female showing of to her
