Hey all, im quite new to all this so hope you can help.

I have just got some plants to put in my fish tank to replace the plastic ones that were in there before. The problem is that one fish keeps on nibbling at the plants and branches are now floating all over the tank. Soon there will be no plants left. Any advice?

The fish that i believe is doing it is a black, red tail shark. Dont know if that makes a difference.

Thanks

Red tailed sharks are omniverous, so they may be the culprits. Many fish will eat plants or even just destroty them for kicks. Look into the types of fish you have. There's probably nothing you can do about it unfortunately. Good Luck!

You could possibly be seeing your fish eating algae etc off the plants... and there could be a few sly snails eating them away. Its a possibility but dont really know what fish you have.

I have an oscar that used to shred plants, seemingly just for fun. But, when he was moved to my new larger tank, he has not touched a plant since. I think he just needed more space.

Try some plants that fish won't eat. Jave fern is supposed to be good. My platies only nibble at the algae on it though my cories like to move the plant around a bit. ( I think they're redecorating )
