The past 4 days my fish have been mysteriously dying and I can't figure out why.

I have a 40 gal stocked with:

6 juvenile Angels
3 glass cats
1 platy
1 small kili
2 synodontis europis
2 small bn plecs
2 baby swordtails
5 cories
1 snail

My water stats are:

PH 7.6
Ammonia 0
Nitite 0
(no nitrate test)

I have lost: 2 cories, 1 black molly 1 ram.

The bodies have no visible problems with them. no bloating, no loss of color, their fins appear to bit alittle frayed but look otherwise fine.
I can watch some of my cories swim and just fall to one side and the cories look alittle pale. The other fish all look fine! Any ideas? My heater burnt up and failed 2 days ago so i bought a new one but I started losing fish a couple days before that. no new additions of any sort, i.e. chemicals, decorations, fish, etc.

Did the temp of the tank drop fast with the heating packing in.
Also did you let the tank water gradually raise back up.
It sounds bacterial with the fins, being pale, and falling onto one side.

the temp dropped from 80 degrees to 66 overnight. It looked like air bubbles on the heater and then the bubbles were burnt and looked melted in the morning when I noticed it wasn't working. I replaced the heater ASAP and it is gradually rising - I bought the new heater Monday morning and the temp is just hitting 78 degrees now, so it is rising slowly. I was thinking bacterial also, the bn has slightly raggedy fins (almost looks like his top fin went clear and you can just see the spiny parts) and it has a faded color spot on its head.

(FYI, I did forget to take the broken heater out of the tank until this morning, heres a pic of it - do you think the stuff burnt on it could have poisioned the fish?)

I would add maracyn to the tank. Do you have any maracyn meds in stock.

Yes take the carbon out.
Which maracyn do you have maracyn one or two, or maracyn plus.

personally i would do a 50% water change just in case there is water problem,at least that way you can be sure to dilute down any possible undetected water quality probs

Missed the spot on the head. Does the spot have any redness to it.
How big is the spot on the head.

I have maracyn II but the lfs is just down the street I could buy something else if needed. The spot is not red, just a faded spot and its about the diameter of a small pea (but the bn is a juvenile, prob only 2 inches in length). Tried to get a pic but it wont come to the front of the tank. One of the cories also has a similar faded spot but on its side, about the same size. I don't see any cottony white on any of the fish, and toileting seems fine. Feeding frozen brine shrimp and flake, and algae tabs
