Fish Dying In Cycling Tank - Long Post!

As a quick update, I DID go back to my lfs and told how annoyed and dissappointed I was about the misinformation and that at the very least I should inform them that if this is what they were telling every new fish owner then they were causing a lot of unneccessary suffering to fish.

They explained that they had been there for 35 years and rarely had problems with new tanks providing they followed the guidelines laid down. And they also asked new customers to bring some water in after 4 days for testing (they didn't ask me until I phoned in with problems).
I explained that my fish were dead within 4 days so that wouldn't have helped!

The guy I spoke to also didn't recommend the fish I had as they were bred for fanciful looks rather than hardiness...he went a little quiet when I said that the other assistant had recommended them hence we bought them.

I did manage to get some mature filter medium from him for my trouble which is now doing a grand job in my FISHLESS cycle and is cooking nicely.

I have also bought another tank I have some questions about which I will take over to the Tropical chat forum

Thanks again for your support.

Cheers

Mark

Just been keeping an eye on this thread and I want to say well done for pursuing with your fish and getting to grips with the cycling process. Sorry to hear you lost your fish =(

And a massive thumbs up for telling your lfs exactly what you thought of them. I wish I had the guts to really lay into them when they give shockingly bad advice.
