Figured I'd share the outcome of an unfortunate event that happened on the weekend.
I had a party at my place, and to cut a long story short, someone though it'd be funny to get my fish drunk. Evidently, Oscars can't handle their alcohol.

Thankfully, I managed to transfer my Angel, 5 Clown loaches and my RTBS into another tank before they got too sick. They lasted in the beer-infected tank for nearly 24 hours (I was ####faced). They were all sticking their heads out of the water and breathing air, not to mention swimming upside down. The oscars weren't as tolerant. Two of four survived - they spent a day in a large bucket with a heater in it while I cleaned the tank.

So a lesson to all - don't give your fish beer. The don't like it!
Thankfully my (somewhat smaller) community revived very quickly upon re-entry to the clean tank. They all seem perfectly healthy now.

Thats terrible! Poor fish. Do you know the moron that put the beer in your tank cos if you do i'd have very strong words to say to them if I were you.

No, I've no idea who he/she was. We emptied 2 50L kegs of Becks that night. I don't remember much.
Naturally, I'm pretty ****** off about it, yeah. Next time I'll secure the lid on the tank.

-Edited for language-

what a complete ####.... won't write that as it's a family forum. poor little oscar's.

I think another lesson might be, if you're going to get rat-arsed, don't do it in the same room where you are keeping animals.

im really sorry man
but what idiot would try get fish drunk ???
anyway sorry man.
r.i.w - poor little oscar's.

Ahh but I didn't! My fish are in my living room, which was locked. The party was under the house. I can thank my flatmate for unlocking the back door and letting people in. Don't shoot me - I didn't plan on this happening!

Not something I'm planning on happening again. I just thought I'd let you guys know what happens. In more detail - the water goes milky after several hours, forming a white froth on the top. It also smells, really bad. I'm surprised the fish lasted that long.
I emptied the tank down to the gravel and refilled it from there. I was hoping that'd be enough to clear out most of the nasties and it seemingly was. Naturally, with a decent dosage of Prime and Nitrivec. On a slightly more positive side of things, this escapade solved my tea-coloured water problem caused by a dodgy piece of driftwood. The tank looks clearer than ever.

Yes, very poor fish :(
I miss my oscars... Really liked those fish.

Someone did that with my guinea pigs. Thank god I stopped them before my piggies drank some. Some people just lose all sense when they drink. :(

Oh and please excuse my french - sorry.
I wasn't exactly jumping with joy when I wrote this.

Great fish :rip:

Put a lock on the fish tank next time!

I remeber one of my stupid friends used to get her cat how would i say this-messed up off egyptian cigarets. I told her not to do it agian and that was that. -_-

You mean she got her cat stoned? Mmm... it's never good when people are cruel to animals.
I'm just thankful I managed to save most of them - it could have been much worse!

Now I've got to work out what I'm going to put in the tank now. I've worked out that Oscars and Plecos don't go as the three Plecos I had mystereously disappeared.

omg this topic reminded me of a friends party once. some idiot thought the fish looked dirty so they put washing up liquid in the tank. not just a tiny blob...the whole frikkin bottle!!
i helped try save them but it was too late. she didn't have a clue what she was doing and was just gettin i the way. thankfully it was just plain goldfish but still :(
