Hi

I have a male bolivian ram that i have noticed is starting to look a bit skinny. After feeding him tonight i noticed he takes food in his mouth, looks like he tries to chew it but it comes out whole again. i work in an aquatics shop so i know what im doing but this has got me confused.

he gets fed about twice a day a mixture of tetra prima and flake etc then every couple of days frozen bloodworm

any ideas? thanks

cant see any worms or and inflamed areas. all the other fish are fine.

Has the fish lost weight due to not eating?

Check for these signs.

Red sores around the mouth, or inside the mouth.
Anything lodged in the mouth.
Swollen mouth.
Any whiteness to the mouth.
Any cotton wool on the mouth.
What do the gills look like.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing, excess mucas, darting, erratic swimming.
Is the tummy sunken in.
What does it look like when your fish go to the toilet.
Does the fish look pale or darker in colour.
Is the fish acting listless and lethagic.
Is the fish tilting to oneside when swimming, or resting.

it is a bit skinny now and the stomach is a little sunken

he is still active as he always has been. no flicking or whiteness etc.

when he went to the toilet this morning it was like, you know you get some bloodworm but just the empty shell no actual worm in it, if that makes sense, thats what it was like, but it wasnt actually a live worm or anything

white stringy poo could be internal parasites, an anti internal parasite / deworming course may be the way forward

So the fish waste is red.
Have you seen any worms sticking out of the anus.

no worms sticking out

he was reluctant to feed today

Is the fish poo red.

How is the fish today?

no its not red, it was translucent last time a saw it

the fish is still fine but no sign of it eating properly

he may be getting by on the crushed flake etc that is easy to swallow rather then the prima which is much larger and harder

I would worm your fish internally.

Clear mucas poo can mean the fish isn't eating, bacterial infection, internal parasites.
