I have been told my one fish could have fish TB.....and I just wondered whether it could be passed to humans and what the effects would be? I always assumed that none of the diseases would be harmful to us because we are so much bigger...but you never know....take bird flu as an example?

??

what if you had a fish infected with fish TB and you accidentally swallowed some of the tank water while syphoning....? Mmm?

Doesn't your BCG jab stop you from getting TB though? I thought that was the whole meaning of it, most people should of had their jab unless they are like aged 60+, or they didn't need it.

Fish TB can be transmitted to humans through open wounds (like a cut on your hand) but it is not the same as human TB- you will get a bacterial infection on your hand (or wherever), treatable by antibiotics. Not consumption!

Right on the money! Its a common misconception that fish TB can travel to humans like human TB travels amongst humans. You basically have to try to get fish TB and even when you do it doesnt act like TB does as dwarfgourami said, itll just be an open wound bacterial infection! Beyond that I've never heard of anything else jumping to humans.

Hi, if you wash your hands before and after maintenance or handling you should be fine. If you have a cut or scratch you might need to be a bit more careful. Here is an article about it

Now Wash Your Hands
