Iam quite new to the fish game. i've got a mixed community tank, but recently one of my male dalmation mollies has taken on a yellow tinge and started twitching like he was having a small fit. any suggestions please?

Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
How many gallons or litres is the tank.
How many fish and which type.
The yellow on the fish does it look like a dusting of yellow.

no water stats available, tank size 160l

10 neons
5 penguins
6 plattys
2 pearl gourami
2 gold gourami
3 dwarf gourami
2 blue gourami
3 convict cichlid
1 red tail shark
2 albino corrys
3 guppys
6 platty
2 black molly
3 dalmation molly
just done 30% water change today and changed charcoal filter head(colour change was there before)

it doesn't look like a dusting of yellow more like if a human gets jaundice, hope this info helps you to help me!

Get water tested at lfs and tell them to write the readings down for you.
Invest in a liquid test kit of your own.
Got alot of fish in that tank.
The yellow is it all over the fish, does it look fluffy in appearance.

will get a test kit(thanks for advice)
as the smaller fish perish i will not be replacing them i intend to stick with just gourami in the long term
the yellow is only on the top half of the fish and no it doesn't fluffy, more like a skin discolouration

discolouration starts above mouth and spreads up past the dorsal fin and down across the back

It sound like columnaris abit they can twitch with that.
Any other fish in the tank showing signs of rubbing and flicking.

Sorry for all the links have to find out which one it is.
Possible to get a pic up of the fish.

now you come to mention it one of the cichlids and one of the gouramis has been rubbing abit but not flicking

Read that last link as it sounds more like that at the moment, fits with the colour mouth and body.

thanks for all your advice, trust me i will take it all on board,i guess we all learn from our mistakes, once again thanks and good night! dlb

Ok, good luck.

One of my mollies was doing that, he died the day after i discovered this due to high nitrites or ammonia, not sure the LFS wasnt specific.

thanks to all for your advice, have been to stockists and purchased water test kit(all readings ok)they informed me on hearing all symptoms that the most likely cause was "molly white"and that the best thing to do was to set up my spare tank with aquarium salt and keep the mollies in that,so i suppose the next question is.What else can tolerate the same water conditions, cos a tank of mollies only would be quite dull?
