This started about 2 weeks ago I had a guppy from my lfs that had a white spot on her head that I thought was normal.. A week later I found that it wasnt just like a birthmark but it was decaying.. I was to late to treate her and she passed away. Then the begining of this week another guppy had the same thing. I tried doing a home remedie called a salt bath since I wouldnt be able to get to the store until saturday. Then earlier yesterday I made a different post about a gourami which passed away during the night last night. After getting a closer look were wounds from a fight and I was able to resolve that.

But now My betta has the same thing as my guppies! And worse he has fin rot. I need advice on how to treat him before it's to late. I have him in a isolation tank at the moment

These are really bad pictures but I am using my mothers camera since mine has a dead battery that needs to be replaced. :\

Hi sorry to hear about your problems.
Did you cycle your tank?
how big is it?
What fish do you have?

i found this about whitespot:

Whitespot (ich) lives in the water so if your fish get it, you need to treat the whole tank and not just the affected fish.

When my fish have had ich I have done a fairly big water change, say 50% and then dosed them with King British White Spot Control. There are many ich meds out there but this is the one I used. Also raise the temperature a little if you can because this will speed up the ich lifecycle.

The important thing about treating whitespot is that you need to have patience. There is no quick cure. Once your fish have the spots there is nothing that can be done about them, what you're trying to do is kill off whats in the water.

Treatment should continue for at least 4/5 days after the spots have cleared to make sure that the ich in the water is once again dormant.

fin rot should clear up with lots of water changes.

Hope this helps
Lloyd

The tank was cycled before I got the betta. I had the guppies for a while, and the tank they were in broke so I had to do an emergency tank replacement but that was a long while ago.. thats when I got 2 new guppies the first one that died was one of them.. It's a small 10 gallon with 5 guppies 1 snail and was one betta but now hes in the isolation tank. It's not ich though, I've treated that before thats very small white dots.. this is one big one on his body that looks like its decaying.. :\

does it look like cotton wool around the head? or are they white ulcers?

It doesnt look like cotton.. but I dont know what white ulcers are.. It looks like the scales are slowly rotting away.

I'm in the US. But that site did help a bit. I believe it's either a bacterial infection or somehow the fin rot has spread to almost his whole body.. There is a small section on his back fin thaat is completely gone and the color of his body from there is fading quickly. It's the same color as the spot on his head.

But if it is fin rot I don't understand what would have killed the guppies because their fins were perfectly fine. Could a bacterial infection call scales to decompose and leave a open wound?

Hi i doubt its just fin rot. a bacterial infection could cause damage to scales and leave open wounds. Im not sure what and bacterial meds you have in the U.S. but i know its better than what is available in the uk.
Hopefully someone can tell you what is the best medication to use.
until you get any i would just do lots f water changes.
Hope he makes it,
Lloyd

So should I treat the guppies that arent showing signs of being ill too because they were in the same tank? I have my betta in a 2.5 isolation (hospital) tank right now. Thankfully he survived the night.. I just hope he can hang in there until hes all better.

I have 3 pregnant guppies that were with him, along with my 2 males. But I rather lose the fry than lose them :\
