Hi,

I've had my fish a couple of months now and the water readings have all been good: 0 Ammonia, 0 Nitrite, 5-20 Nitrate, 7.8pH. I had a Cardinal Tetra die the day after I bought them and looking now 1 more seems to have disappeared along with a Blue Ram. I have shrimps so they might feed off the bodies but is it normal to have this number of fish die so early on? If not then what could it be? There is no sign of disease.

Thanks

Did you do a fish-less or fish-in cycle? If you did a fish in, you may have exposed the fish to some ammonia and nitrite in the beginning, making them more prone to illness and death. They could have also suffered from transport shock, or had a problem already from the lfs. Cardinals can be iffy when not purchased from a reputable source, their over-breeding can make them not as hardy as the wild caught. Same goes with the Rams, they are majorly over bred and can have many issues with their immunity.

It was fishless so I guess it could be the stock. I was just checking there wasn't anything I'd overlooked.

Thanks

I cant comment on the Ram's but the cardinals may just be a weak strain.

Do the rest of your fish look healthy?

I had this when i added large stock, 12 congo tetra and 15 rasbora in a 350l fully cycled. As said could have alot of things but i lost 2 congo and 1 rasbors that was about 10 weeks ago the tank seems to have settled now just one of those things i guess
