Hey guys, ive got a bit of a problem, well i think it is but then again im new to the hobby and not really sure, heres my dilema.... ive had a tank now for roughly 2 months, its a Jewel 180 with an internal filter and heater. There is a "Deco" volvano as well which helps increase the surface area kinda like an air stone. My tank is well planted with 9 varities all have grown exceptionally well and as of yet i havent had any problems with algae except for a small amount on the front glass every week. The plants have been given a liquid fertiliser every month, have iron tablets placed under the gravel next to the roots and i have just bought a co2 system, a cheap tetra one that uses a canister and an inverted tube to force cabon into the water. For this i quater fill the tube with co2 each night. The tank has a small gravel base with some larger rounded stones mixed in and acouple of hiding places such as hollow logs and caves etc.
Now for the problem so far i have aded 4 platies and 2 mollies, one male the other female, the male died after 2 weeks for no apparent reason and i pressumed it was just the cycling process which i was adviced by the shop assistant to be the best way. I now know of fishless cycling but i guess you learn from mistakes! I then added 2 weeks later 2 swordtails whih have been fine, a week later i added 2 dwarf gouramis, both died of a strange disease that effected them in a matter of a week which i learned from this forum is a common illness, an that they are not that hardy at all, even though the shop said they were! 2 weeks later i bought another two dwarf gouramis and again another one died 2 wek later of the same problem, however the other seems fine and is still with me!
After another two weeks i purchased two clown loaches that have been fine and a week later 2 small angel fish and 4 panda corys. The angels have been fine but one of the pandas died last week after being in the tank for 10 days and now ive just noticed a lack of movement and feeding from another one! I know this is a long message but i just wanted to make sure i had described everything in detail. None of the fish that have died have had marks on their bodies that would suggest any disease, apart from the gouramis, and all did the same thing by becoming slowly less active and not feeding. The PH is neutral and there are no traces of ammonia or nitrates Is this a normal amount of fish deaths or is there something wrong with my arrangement? All the other fish are fine. the fish that are left are 2 mollies 4 platies 2 swordtails 2 clown loaches 2 angelfish 3 panda corys (although one looks ill) and a clown plec catfish all fish ar juveniles apart from the swordtails.
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated, i really hate waking up in the morning wondering if any more are going to pass away!!
