Fish Dead,,, Need To Know If It Could Just Be Old Age !?!

Just noticed i made a mistake

the nitrates are at 10

i just did a retest.

DEFO at 10

easy mistake when the collours are so faint for that part of the test kit.

Still abit low for a pond, what are they normally the nitrates in summer.

Ok.
I would still get that ammonia reading.
Take a sample of your pond water to the lfs to test and ask them to write the readings down for you.

Just got back from the LFS.

Amonia was the lowest reading the test kit could do... so we are guna put it down to bad luck / old age.

Just starting to look at now... setting up a quarenteen pond as we are low on stock :(

pond seems very empty all of a sudden.

Ok that good then.
Good luck.

This is rather odd..

Yesterday after having water stats tested and all looking good, i decided i would renew some of the planters. as there are a total of 8 on the bottum of the pond with nothing in.

So i pulled one out which durtied the water a bit.

THen pulled up one of the lillys that is doing well out of the planter it was in and cut it into four pieces.

and re planted with new compost.

All was washed with tap water before being put in the pond.

Water stats this morning are all fine same as before. BUT
one of the koi is acting a little dopey.

Could disturbing the bottum of stired up anything?

or?

I think there is aprox 10cm of rotting pine needles on the bottum of the pond. But the pond has been this way since it was built and the filter is suped up off it to cope with lots of amonia production.

anyone any idea what it could be?

On a plus note... a really really atractive koi i bought last year that i thought had been eaten was found under a planter... along with several other baby fish most likely goldfish...

Been listless can mean many things hard to say without more symtoms to go on.
.
Any colour change.

looks like all is back to normal again now...

symptoms involved one fish being dopey

and had what looked like a small waxy spot on its back, and a loss of apretite.

And another rubbing on the bottum of the pond.

However there all swimming merrily again like nothing was wrong.

tested the water again, and all stats perfect... Local LFS think it could be a small outbreak of carp pox on said fish brought on by the bottum of the pond being disturbed. OR something along those lines.

yeah ive read into it... can be brought on by a change in temp. and once they have it they never get rid of it aparently...

Bloke in LFS described it as a carp version of exma and my book agrees... but worrying... dont think i will try cleaning the ft of crap out the bottum again :(

shame the pond was neglected for it to build up really :(

Sorry, good luck.

Thanks again for the help wilder :)

Sorry im such a pain lol

seems whenever i make an effort on the pond to make it better it backfires lol

Your'e not a pain worrying goes with fish it means you take the hobby seriously.

Got some news today good / bad

Came down to a dead goldfish... which made me dead certain that it wasnt old age...

turns out to be a parasite took a live fish in for a scraping to be taken and analised.

they have "Chilodonella" if i remember correctly.

dosed with formalin to be repeated in 8 days time.

Bit of luck its been spotted now though as i go away for 3 weeks on monday
